Hello you wonderful people,
are you as excited as I am for the most wonderful time of the year coming up?
I know, I know…Today is black Friday and most of you are probably not in Christmas mood yet but black Friday is something I refuse to take part in just because really?! You eat with your family and take a whole day out to be thankful and appreciative for the people and things you have in your life – just to run off in the middle of the night and camp in front of an electronic store to buy something new you don’t really need… I just really don’t get the concept of that!! Why not spend the whole evening/night with your family and maybe the day after Thanksgiving being thankful a little bit more instead of buying so much stuff you (let’s be honest) really don’t need? What’s even worse is, in Germany we don’t have the holiday Thanksgiving but we have started to implement black Friday… WHY?? JUST WHY?? It just doesn’t make sense to me..
Anyhow, enough ranting from my side ;) So, instead of going crazy shopping today I decided to take time out and start getting more into Christmas mood. I cannot wait to have everything all decorated and cozy for Christmas in our apartment :) Sunday is the first Advent and I don’t know if you are familiar with the German tradition of an Advent wreath? Just in case you aren’t: It’s a wreath most people put on their table, it has 4 candles on it and the 4 Sundays before Christmas you get to light one candle after another. And for example after the first Advent Sunday, you light that one candle the whole week when it gets dark. The second Advent Sunday you add another candle – so in week two you get to light two candles every night, and so on :) You get the concept ;) It’s a tradition over here and I don’t remember any year where I haven’t had at least a tiny wreath. But I have a problem, traditional Christmas colors are usually red and gold and I cannot stand red. I like gold but red is driving me crazy!! It doesn’t fit into our apartment, it makes me uneasy, it is just really not my color! And a lot of the classic Christmas Decorations include red…So, every year I try to find ways around using this color – which leads me to finding new untraditional Christmas decorations and I’m really liking it :)
This year trending colors are, light pink, mustard colors, black & white and copper & mint ( ♥ ;) ). So if you read my blog so far you probably know what I decided on :D Copper and mint :) If you don’t have an advent wreath yet and are looking for some last minute inspiration, here is how I did mine:
I don’t really know how to make an actual beautiful wreath out of evergreens therefore, I bought this tray which I can reuse each year because it’s color neutral and super easy to decorate.
- 4 candles
- Christmas Ornaments, I got different sized ball ornaments, star ornaments, some geometric ornaments
- some greens for the bottom of the tray, this year I used some that were more greyish to match the colors of the rest of the „wreath“
- pinecones – I found some pigmented with copper :)
I laid out the greens on the bottom, put the candles in the holders and then I just start decorating the rest :)
Here are some impressions:
I had everything decorated the first time but one side was pretty but the other side just didn’t look right. It’s important to keep in mind is that if you put the wreath or tray (whatever you decide on using) on your dining table it needs to look pretty from all angles. So I undecorated it again and just started from scratch – sometimes it just takes a couple of tries to get it right.
The finished tray looks like this:
If you don’t have an advent wreath yet, you have 3 more days left ;) So decide on your colors, go get the supplies, keep all angles in mind and have fun decorating :)
