Hello you wonderful people,
Smile and the world will smile back – they said. And oh boy were they right :)
Have you also heard somebody say that before? I was always wondering what would happen if you take this saying by its word and just walk around smiling and waiting for the reactions. Is the world really going to smile back and be nicer to you too? Or was it just a saying trying to get you to be happier? I was determined to just try it and find out.
In general I’m a friendly and outgoing person and I am smiling a lot :) But do you know that awkward situation where you meet the eyes of a stranger e.g. at the checkout and both of you start to look in a different direction without batting an eye? I hate when that happens, I somehow feel bad when I look away because it gives you this weird, blushing, embarrassing feeling. To change that I decided to for at least two days to walk around and whenever I would make eye contact with someone I would just smile, doesn’t matter if this was an old grandma or a small little kid (by the way, it’s so much fun with kids because they are still so genuine and honest and don’t care if it might be embarrassing to smile at someone and don’t get a return, so from them you always get a smile).
At first it felt kind of weird just randomly smiling at people without knowing them or for no other particular reason but then almost everybody was smiling back and it was just giving my day such a positive spin – I loved it :) I guess by smiling at people you send out so much positive energy and people really do react to it. I think in the two days where I was doing it really consciously one or two people didn’t smile back, and I decided that that was their loss ;) Smiling and getting smiled back was a source for so much positive energy that I am from now on trying to do this all the time :) Getting so many random smiles will just fill you and your day with positive energy – so my advice to you: next time when your eyes meet the eyes of a stranger, just smile and then the world will smile back at you (I promise :) )!
